Bird life around Schaloen
A
relatively large part of this park is intended to
be a breeding and hiding ground for birds.
This part is planted with fruit and seed
bearing trees
and bushes. The fruits and seeds ripen in various
seasons, so that there will be sufficient food
for the birds throughout the year. Only after
heavy snow
or lasting periods of frost it will be necessary
to feed them.
In the fringe of the bird grove
you will find a small shallow pond offering
birds a
bath, situated in the shade so that the water
will remain
cool on hot summer days – and a bird feeder.
Birds regularly seen in the garden are: Linnet,
Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Grey Wagtail, Spotted
Flycatcher, Serin
and Lesser Kestrel. Near the garden there is
a rookery. Preying birds like buzzard, falcon
and sparrow hawk
are frequently seen here.

up draught during the pleasantly warm summers of Limburg.
