11. Biological life in and around the pool

The pool found in or near every village served as a watering place for cattle. Moreover the village’s wagon builder used it to lye his wood. When there was a fire the pool water was indispensable. Such a village pool was fed by rain-water.

In and around the drinking pool a rich biological life developed. Frogs, toads, salamanders, dragon flies, water snails, leeches and water-beetles can be found here. A rich vegetation accommodates to this animal life. The real water plants are situated in the water tanks (17). They would clog up the pool if growing here.
* Several species of salamanders are living in the drinking pool
